Throughout this year's summer program students worked in small groups to develop team work and cooperation. The focus was to educate them on the dangers of tobacco including hookah and electronic cigarettes, in addition to alcohol and prescription medication. They also enjoyed physical activities that included human hungry hippos and an obstacle course.
WEB Program
WEB, which stands for “Where Everybody Belongs” is a middle school orientation and transition program that welcomes 6th graders to RMS and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, the program trains 8th grade mentor to become WEB Leaders. As positive role models, WEB Leaders are mentors and student leaders who guide the 6th graders to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to middle school and help facilitate academic and social success.
Pumpkin Festival
At this year's pumpkin festival RYLM students volunteered to distribute information on the medication drop box that is located at the Romulus Police Station. Members of the community were able to experiment with our Drunk Buster goggles, which give the visual perception of being intoxicated. The hope is to prevent the use of alcohol, especially when it comes to minors. We also raffled off a Kindle Fire HD, all proceeds will go to assisting with our community service efforts.
Dave & Busters Reward
RYLM students that dedicated hours of their personal time over the past few months enjoyed a gaming reward with limousine transportation donated by Entertainment Express.
FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference
RYLM Students visited the Lansing Center and participated in exciting, active workshop sessions aimed at helping them develop dynamic leadership skills.
Fuel Up To Play 60
At the Healthy Living Assembly RMS students participated in physical activities and learned about nutrition and eating healthy. They also helped raise money during last years 5K to contribute to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Red Ribbon Week
RYLM hosted a Red Ribbon cafeteria campaign where RMS students voted on the drug and alcohol free door decorating contest. They also experienced goggles that give the perception of intoxication, in hopes to prevent them from underage drinking. Selected students who wrote essays and designed Red Ribbon themed posters were invited to a luncheon by the Romulus Drug Task Force and were recognized by Mayor Burcroff.
Pink Pumpkin Project
RYLM students designed and painted pink pumpkins to help bring awareness to the burden cancer causes families. The group raised four hundred and fifty dollars by selling the pumpkins at Romulus Eagle varsity football home games, all proceeds stay in the community to help local families who have a loved one fighting cancer. Without the sponsorship from Blocks Nursery this project would not be possible. If you or someone you know is battling any form of this disease please let us know so we can make a contribution.
Canned Food Drive
RYLM students decorated canned food drive boxes for every classroom at Romulus Middle School. The annual holiday food drive brings in over one thousand nonperishable food items that are donated to the Helping Hands food bank. Helping Hands then distributes the food to people in our community who are in need .
Pancake Breakfast
The first hour that donated the most nonperishable food items were rewarded with a pancake breakfast personally cooked by Mr. Edwards. Congratulations to Mrs. Wank's and Mrs. Bell's classes who earned the breakfast.
Bubble Soccer
As a fun group activity RYLM students exerted themselves by playing one of the newest games around "bubble soccer".
Flint Water Drive
RYLM and Romulus Community Schools partnered with Eastern Michigan University to help assist with the Flint water crisis. The one day drive will help provide the citizens of Flint with nearly 200 cases of clean drinking water, which will be distributed through the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
FCCLA State Leadership Conference
Students that attended the conference worked in teams to present their community service projects. They also took part in team building activities and attended workshops. Three groups earned gold medals and were invited to the national conference while two groups respecftully earned silver medals.
Construction Science Expo
6th-8th grade RYLM students took part in the Construction Science Expo at the Michigan Science Center. They were able to gain a hands on approach to careers that focus on STEM education.
