Summer Program In our summer program, leadership students learned valuable production skills while creating an amazing Batman themed promotion video for our bottle and can drive. They wrote the script, planned the shots, used cameras and lighting, acted, and edited during the 4 week session. Students this summer also continued to work on the chair recovering project, mulching flower beds, and preparing bulletin boards for the start of the new school year.
RMS Healthy Living
In continuation with our Fuel Up to Play assembly students kick off the new year by learning about nutrition and maintaining a healthy diet which includes exercising and staying away from drugs and alcohol.
Red Ribbon Essay Contest
During Red Ribbon week leadership students host a cafeteria campaign, inviting students to take the pledge and dedicate their lives to living drug and alcohol free. They also made school wide announcements and challenged students to an essay and logo contest, while other classes participated by getting involved in the door decorating contest.
Hat & Mitten Collection
As the cold weather moves in, RYLM promotes a school wide hat and mitten collection to distribute to younger children in the community. Leadership students give back by visiting elementary students and presenting tips on winter weather safety.
FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference A select group of our 8th grade FCCLA members were able to attend the fall leadership conference near our state's capitol. They were able to learn about teamwork, public speaking and gained other valuable skills from the various breakout sessions.
Cancer Awareness Throughout the month of October our leadership students decorated pumpkins and sold them during home varsity football games. All proceeds were donated to local families within the community who were battling various forms of the disease.
Fuel Up To Play 60 During our Fuel Up To Play Assembly students participate in physical challenges, learn about healthy eating habits and gain valuable information on limiting screen media use. In addition a donation was made to the Romulus Animal Shelter, proceeds were raised during last year's 5K charity run.
RMS Web Leaders During the summer our guidance counselors train our top 8th grade students to work with incoming 6th graders. The week long program ensures that the 6th graders are prepared for the middle school transition. Web is an acronym for "Where Everyone Belongs".
KICK BUTTS DAY 7th Grade Leadership worked together to create a week long Kick Butts campaign, it focused on promoting tobacco free youth. Throughout the week students announced daily facts, held a scavenger hunt and concluded with a pledge to not be the future consumers of tobacco products.
FCCLA State Leadership Conference At the annual FCCLA State Leadership Conference RYLM members showcased their community service projects to a panel of judges. Our students were recognized as the most spirited group and earned 22 gold medals and 3 silver. Eighteen were invited to attend the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Washington DC. In addition they received a community service award for their canned food collection and the most creative door sign award. Mr. Edwards was recognized with a 5 year FCCLA service award and Mrs. Santo her 10th.
Construction Science Career Expo
The Construction Science Expo is an annual event, held in late spring at the DIA in Detroit, during which RMS leadership students who have signed a drug-free pledge are invited to spend a day being exposed to careers in the engineering and construction fields through a variety of speakers and hands-on experiences.
Rouge River Watershed Project
A group of our most dedicated 8th grade leadership students endured 4 weeks of in lab hands on training to prepare for the Rouge river watershed clean up. They learned how to identify species, test for water quality in addition to measuring water current speed and depth.
